Is it possible to have universal pole names?
Hey everyone,
We’ve all know that different studios and communities often use different names for the same pole moves or tricks. This can sometimes lead to confusion, especially when learning new moves from various sources.
Let’s discuss here and explore the idea of having universal pole names. Do you think it’s possible or even necessary?
Here are a few points to consider:
1. Standardization
Just like in any other field or discipline, having universal names for pole moves could provide a standardized framework for learning and teaching. It might make it easier for instructors to communicate with students and for students to follow online tutorials or attend classes at different studios.
2. Pole Moves Modification
Pole dancing is developing rapidly with new moves constantly being added, hence new names are being created. Some may argue that these “new moves” are just variations of existing ones. Here lies a dilemma: Do we give these variations new names (example: Allegra & Jallegra, which are variations of Jade Split & Allegra) or do we just keep them as variations? If so, how would we refer to each variation without getting confused?
3. Community and Traditions
On the flip side, many pole communities have developed their own unique terminology and traditions over the years. Some might argue that this diversity adds character to the art form and creates a sense of identity within different communities. Would universal names diminish this diversity, or could they coexist with local terms?
4. Challenges
Implementing universal pole names would not be without its challenges. Who would decide on these names? How would they be enforced or adopted across the global pole community? Would there be room for variations or local adaptations?
5. Education and Resources
Universal pole names could potentially make it easier for pole dancers to access educational materials, both online and offline. This could benefit beginners and advanced practitioners alike, as it would simplify the process of searching for tutorials and resources.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Do you think it’s possible to have universal pole names, and if so, how should we address the issue of naming variations and modifications of existing moves? Or do you believe that the current diversity of names and terms is an essential part of the pole dance culture? Let’s discuss and share your ideas!
